I had some apprehension before I go to FAD studio today cause there are a lots of friends who I don't know. Even they are all foreigner except for a few Korean but they were so kind and we got to be friends. We were split into groups and our group was given material subject about GLASS. We went out to find out everything related with glass. Many facing of buildings have been made by strong glasses almost all churches have beautiful stained glass as well. We found wine glass, many kinds of windows and so on. Wine glass is usually curved so if you see everything through the wine glass, it seems like they are curved. I also have found my glasses and it is prescription. It's little bit different from normal glass we tried to know about feeling of person who have good sight and is wearing strong glasses. He said It feels dizzy and everything is kinds of more bright and make feel high. We discussed after we came back. Talking with each other about same topic enabled me to think again and differently.

My group was given the three tasks and porcelain is one of them. so I researched it on the internet firstly. The term porcelain refers to a wide range of ceramic products that have been baked at high temperatures to achieve vitreous, or glassy qualities such as translucence and low porosity. Also, porcelain is frequently used as synonym for china. but they are different. china, also known as soft-paste or tender porcelain, is softer cause china is baked in lower degrees then porcelain. One another difference is porcelain is always translucent and china is opaque. Porcelain is also very hard in comparison to other ceramic but It's delicate. there was stoneware and earthenware. They are fired at a much lower temperature than both in kiln. I found a lot of information of porcelain and I tried to find more developed ideas of its translucidity, fragility. There are many ceramic artworks so I decided to make a mind map. I plan to develop this idea before Tuesday.

I took a second class at CSM. The professor showed us some final portfolio of foundation course graduates. Each portfolios have really different characters. Especially, The portfolio of student who went to BA textile course was personally very distinctive and every pages of that were unique and fresh and We had 30 minutes to dream up 30 ideas combining practitioner, material and process and we chose 5 idea among them. It was really hard to me..to be honestly, I could not think one idea in one minutes,,But I eventually got best idea among them. This process helped me having best idea in short time. But In order to have best idea, Investigating and Knowing every information is integral part of the research base because If I don't know well, I couldn't know more nice idea. We picked out only 1 idea and explained to other students to receive feedback but everyone is sorts of embarrassed. There are no one who point out some bad idea..So I had one more discussion with Korean friends after class. It really helped me to develop idea. I didn't have some reason but she pointed out WHY did you do it?? I can't explain at that time..I will strengthen my idea before presentation.

Foundation course students developed their each idea and and put them on the A2sheet to show other students at 12pm. I thought I did work not badly before I looked other student's developing process and complete work. I also did that but I took matter easy..My practitioner was YINKA SHONIBARE. and his one of the important feathers is the consistent use of wax fabric. so I used his African Fabric on my work. my material was PORCELAIN. so I tried to find very beautiful shape as well as the feather of that. I found one of very unique shape. It's Korean artwork called Shattered porcelain fragment fused by gold. I was just inspired by the shape of her work but It was just copy. and my process was Knit. so I used the way 'knitting' to repair the broken pottery instead of gold on Korean art work. I thought I needed only to include each feature of 3 research on my work but It was not..I should have researched and developed a lot. Almost everyone brought the features from practitioner, material and process and developed them a lot. Ex) if I wanted to use features of YINKA SHONBARE's work, I needed to research more like there are no artist who used this african fabric and there are any other artist's works which explore the issues of colonialism like him. the tutors mixed the FT1~3 to make small groups and we presented about our works for 5members of group. we had to choose one person who  did the work the best (My work was sadely but rightly not chose) and develop the person's work more and more with group. Unfortunately, It was really hard to understand her developing process in English.. she thankfully wrote down about that for me. Only then I could understand what she wanna talk. Every group presented in front of every FTstudents and tutors. I will do my best from next project.

Drawing is one of the most important visual communication tools used by both Fashion and Textile disciplines to communicate ideas. Thursday, we approached a variety of of unusual approaches to drawing and mark making. We drew outlines of models with some thick pen in 30sec and drew some details of the clothes with other pens. And I drew one another model's outline by drawing negative spaces. Also,  We drew some details by using various materials like thin sharp, thick marker and pastels. we must not use color materials firstly. we used many different colors after having second drawing time. Sometime, we drew some shadow on wall by shining white light onto some our acetate samples that we created on the projector. we had also some angry drawing time(Drawing roughly) and something like that. Lastly we combined our works what we did during course from Monday to Tuesday to create a final piece. So I wanted to combine draping materials and acetate samples that we created on my sketchbook. but I regret that I just drew them without making something with draping material..I will try to make everything to 3D works more after today. I developed my sketchbook like writing down some words and attaching what we did on the sketchbook.

The jacket project started from today. we analyzed our garments before we put on the body. We tried to find every details and to know how to call them in tailored jacket like lapel, lining, facing, fusing, piping and so on. we drew outside&inside of jacket's front and back focusing on details and we tried to draw some part of the jackets more detailedly without lifting pencil on the sketchbook(1line drawing). The different elements of the jacket is having paisley pattern on the lining. And next, we draped on the body. we must not do normally like just wearing jacket. someone knotted the sleeves and someone tried to tied the clothes on the leg or waist. I tried to use my jacket and my partner's jacket. I tied inside of sleeve and outside of sleeve. sometimes I untied and just used the shape of the jackets. we drew them very quickly like 30 sec as well as taking a picture. And next, I made some structure with 3 group members. Actually we made some work on the chair and drew with one line drawing and details. Also, our group put down the jackets on the floor and draped more creatively on the body for 3times. We used the head and legs and waist on the body to drape. we drew the 3jackets after putting down on the floor detailedly. I could know more about the features and details of my jackets and I will probably get really nice shapes  If I try to put on the jacket creatively very often. we analyzed the structure of a familiar object and reconstructed it and reinterpreted it with a new shapes of jacket.

Jeff Koons artworks

His derives inspiration from things you might find at a yard sale: inflatable plastic toys, vacuum cleaners, porcelain trinkets and other items not typically considered fine art. They are all every day materials and mundane items. His artworks look cheap but is expensive.

I originally tried to make some structure drilled and having many different shapes of the holes by using some soft but hard thing like polystyrene or something like that and I thought developing garment as well. My start point of this developing process was circles in the garment which I made in previous project and I thought about a lot of circles in the bone. The bigger the holes are in, The more there are possibility to get crouchback. Making some shapes of the jacket which people having humpback wear by using some wires but It was boring so I changed it to another stuff 'Plant stem'. We could find interesting shapes when we put the stem which was cut on the microscope. I wanna show this shapes. So I bought the materials like straws, gesso and so on. I will make some structure with them.

(12/10/16)

I kept doing same work until today. At first, I cut the straws and glued them. I put them in the gesso and wait for almost an hour to be dried themselves. It looks like straw plaster. I painted them with many different acrylic colors and I finally attached them on some black hardboard. I developed my idea little bit. I will be better next time. After lunch time, we exhibited our works on the wall or table. Many friends displayed their works and they are all different. some people used some garment to make that and some people used some printing on the previous printing project. I found very unique and nice artworks. even one of my classmate made some trouser with 140dollars. I sometime hard to believe how they made it for 5days..

31/10/14

We had over 1week to research about this public art project before the course starts so I went out to look around about the public statues. I found two nymph statues and the Victoria queen monument in London. One of the nymph sculpture was in Berkeley Square and the People are relaxing in there by a statue of a nymph holding an overflowing vase as a drinking fountain. And another statue was in the Westminster. they are all gift by some people in the highest social position. The Victoria queen was in front of the Buckingham palace. There are many statues like at the top of the central, pylon stands a gilded bronze Winged Victory and some figures and some angels of justice and truth as well as Victoria queen. I drew them all and photographed all. I usually drew realistically because I didn't think more like how to draw creatively. I fixed after I saw some friend's sketchbooks. they use very various drawing materials to draw the statues in addition to that sometimes, they drew very differently from the statues. I think it probably help them to think more creatively, so I will not do only draw realistically after this project. I will do more as well as drawing the statue originally. so first day of the project. we drew more about the statue and we cut some shapes from the sculptures to create another our own statue. we cut 3 different shapes and mixed together to make some statue. I just cut the silhouette of the statues. our statue was just some people like nymphs and monument so It was hard to find some interesting shapes from just the image. I thought I could find nice shapes after making my statue. We drew the statues with many different pens and many multiple views. and we cut this same shapes on bigger paper to drape on the body. I also cut and tried to drape and took a picture whenever I found some interesting shapes. And we went some fabric shapes to get some swatches to use when we make the outcome of this project.

8/11/16

I brought the 9 different samples. I used some homeware or some tools like screw, nuts, washer s and so on and I developed them to more nice works. firstly, we had to use only paper to make the samples on the 3 10by10 papers after we chose 3 samples which I would develop more and next, we made few more things using any materials. I used some part of the samples which I made something which looks like flowers. we also made some structures by using the materials which we brought. I should have brought a lot of stuffs even if I didn't planed to use them. we made some structures or samples for about 4hours and I didn't bring many materials..I only had few thing after I made 9 samples and drawing materials. Somehow, I made some structures using hairpin, some wire, washers and so on. I also collaborated with my friend in making structures. I could find different shapes by adding different new things. of course, I could make some different samples with different ways but it was hard to be said I developed my idea more. I think I just tried different ways in my Uni. I will try to display the samples which is related the building used the style of Brutalist architecture.

09/09/16

I went to the library after the lecture to research about my task. I thought It is group project. But one of my group members said it's individual task today. So, I just tried to find some books related about my project by myself. What I have to research are practitioner(Yinka Shonibare), material(Porcelain) and process(Knit).I tried searching for an available book in the library about my pratitioner using the machine, but most of them were taken or loaned. I mainly researched on the internet about him. An important feature of his work is using of colorful, wax-printed cotton fabrics(Batik), which are associated with Africa. His works contain issues of colonialism, those race and class through various media which include painting, sculpture, photography, installation art, and even film and performance. He became very famous artist even if he fell ill called transverse myelitis. I think he deserves more respect.

I researched my project in the library with books and the internet. I tried to find African fabric because Yinka Shonibare used it a lot in his works. It's really bright, distinctive and unique. I know what African fabric is but I didn't know why people refer African fabric to wax printing. Firstly, Dutch textile company *VLISCO*which installed in Africa was probably contributed and Africa had a very rich textile industry as noted by Kansan Mussa's entire delegation..

Yinca Shonibare's workcontain issues of colonialism, those race and class. I found the books about them but there are no pictures, only letters. so I researched a lot about that through the Internet.

And next, I investigated porosity which is one of the features of porcelain. I think the artwork 'Conical Intersect' is related with it a lot. There are also many interesting architectures which have a lot of void. It seems like that there are many possibility to collapse as having many holes on structure.

Lastly, I investigated about my Process'Knit'. Basically, Knitting is a method by which yarn is manipulated to create a textile or fabric-Wikipedia. I wanted to mix it with the feature of the porcelain's low porosity. Personally, It's so nice. I need to develop more..and be criticized.

Our project title was 'Your surrounding'. We went out and started by drawing any structures which is near my college for almost one and half an hour. I tried to draw some building which we can see framework. I used so many times to draw details about that. There are also many structures which are building today so I drew them. and we created and cut 5shapes from what we drew outside. We tried to draw these shapes with various ways like overlapping on sketchbooks and drew them on very big paper sheet. We manipulated them and put them on my partner as 3D work. I draped a lot and drew and took a photo of them. Lastly, I also drew them seeing my photo. It My tutor really didn't like just taking photo so I tried to draw them on my sketchbook. I developed my ideas and researched within my sketchbook by using 2D compositions, 3D manipulations, and design development.

The tutor told us to bring some valuable 5 items which make me happy and be related of some of parts in my life. Almost every valuable things for me is in my home in Korea. so I tried to find any other things among in my room now. So I found badminton racket,  shuttlecock, thick chopstick, rice. My dream was badminton player until 13years old but I quite it because of my body condition. It was really important thing in my life at that time. And the reason why I chose that chopstick is that I can not use thin chopstick which usually asian people use so I use only the thick chopstick. And I eat rice almost everyday. I brought them and our group made our items to be related to each others. And we drew them to 5steps. Firstly, we only drew the material's outline. I drew them but I think I didn't do that hard..and then we drew some materials details. I drew my badminton racket. And I drew the negative parts of the materials like empty parts. We also drew an outline of the materials with wrong hand.  I was right hander so I drew them by left hand. Also, I drew the two materials selected with two hands. We did it again after lunch more exactly. We also cut one of the best mark making paper. and tried to make really nice shape. The last thing we did during lesson was projecting our acetate samples that we created, By shining white light onto the samples and projecting it to a large wall, we were able to see our work in a larger scale thus being able to see in higher detail. Personally, I was satisfied my acetate which was created. But I should have drew more detail hardly. It was unsuccessful.

We brought some fabrics which coordinate with our each garments. We drew the garments and fabrics after overlapping them for several times and drew some structure mixed with other garments and fabrics. We also swapped the seats every five minutes and drew the structures on other's sketchbook with my drawing skill. I could know everyone have different perspective even if we see same structure and I could see how  they draw through this swapping process. And next, we deconstructed our jacket like ripping seams and reconstructed with our own identity. I didn't just ripped seams. I thought how to look nice. I could know what is in the jacket between outside and inside through removing seams and I wanted to use inside fabric(lining) on the outside. I reverse the lining and I also wanted to use the pocket inside out. I attached it with pins. The lining fabric looks like round paisley. So I cut one of the sleeves some rounds and put new fabrics. AndI cut every parts which I don't need. It looks like the clothes which fashionable homeless.

29/09/16

download.php?file=2261731&embedded=1&textbox=2261766

The task was reconstruction of garment and making 6 swatches using fabrics used by reconstruct the garment to Thursday lunch time. I specially used the lining. I wanted to use the pattern of paisley in the lining so I reversed and The shape of paisley pattern is round so I used the shape on the sleeve. I cut some circle and put in the other fabric coordinated with the colour. I reversed sleeve lining to outside and attached that with safety pins. I also wanted to use the unperfected and reversed pocket. And We exhibited our works and sketchbooks on the walls. I could see someone made an effort like photograph with model and a lot of knitting. I could guess someone probably wanna go knit course and someone wanna go women's wear as well. We also got some post-it to give some feedback or compliment. Usually, knitting or some very unique design of garments which seems like they spent a lot of time to make that got a lot of compliment. Sadly, I only got one post-it which say "I love how you used different fabrics and textures but I think you should have taken the jacket apart more". I agree with it to some extent. I wanted to used the shape of the tailored jacket but It could make my reconstructed jacket to normal. If I have another reconstruction project. I will think more like how to make my garment uniquely as well as show feature of tailored jacket. Thank you for your feedback.

We decided what kind of making process I will like printing, craft, manufacturing and  brought some mundane items to collage them. I brought pill and cook utensils and antique magazine and new magazine. Before I had the class I researched about two designers(Luke and James) who actually use every day materials for making there works because they are really related to our work. Even they came the CSM FDA and told us how to make their works and how they studied in CSM and How they actually are inspired by and so on. So It sort of helped me how to use the items. Actually, we just drew the every day materials with many different ways and we also used the everyday materials as drawing materials to make some print. So I used my cook utensils like I applied the prints on the fork and put that marks. I just used powder in the pill as well. I also drew some materials repeatedly. It could be looked like patterns. It gave me very different way's access.

On second day of this project, we have drawn more with different ways like drawing silhouette line with 3 different equipments and we drew sometimes very quickly and sometimes very slowly delicately. I drew hanger and It's kind of hard for me. And we also drew the shapes of objects very simply and made some patterns on the sketchbook. I used the harmonica and cook utensil like forks, knifes and stones. I also used this things as drawing materials to apply the paints. My making process is culinary process. To be honestly, I just planned to make some printing. I didn't choose the process, but I could get some process while making something luckily. so I used anything about cooking. I thought not only using it as tools but also how about painting on the cutlery. so I applied paints on the cutlery and It was nice. I also tried to put some paints on the spones and forks with many different ways. I will find more way to make more nice printings. I learned how to access the process and how to use the materials more.

We had to make 4 artworks on the A4sheets until 2pm. My process was culinary process so I tried to make works by using cutleries like spoon, fork, and knifes. The artists who we refer and follow are also make clothes with 2D printing using 3D stuffs. I firstly wanna paint the cutleries with my own unique in a different ways and I printed and edited it in different ways. I also wanted to use it as neckless or something like that. Everything didn't satisfy me. The original version is nice. So someone could think I haven't thought about how to make it more nicely but I did it and First thing was nice. And next, I made an effort to print the forks using acrylic paints and I  really liked the details of the painting. I didn't planed it but It was so nice. I also used some printing which was printed by some colorful forks. I printed it and there were some very subtly color in there. Lastly, I put transparent plastic spoons on the dirty painting and I glued them together and I attached on the A4 acetate after cutting them. I really liked the every different patterns in the spoons.

10/10/16

We had to thought about the new research and any other research which was used before as well as previous project. So firstly, I talked about what I will re make on this project with my group members and got some feedback. I re developed Jacket project which we have done before. I would use the shape of the circles which are on the lining. I researched about artists who made some work using circles like Gorden Matta Clerk. I also researched about any other things like inside the bone. I will try to develop more using these things. In class,  we had some lecture which how to think well when we go to museum and how to use moodle well and how to use library well. A person who work in the museum brought some artworks to the class and she said us guess about each works like what this is and how this product was made. And she told us what is this after 30M. And when we have some time to learn how to use library well. I also knew how to find the books well like relating books with source. We didn't study about our this project today.

1~3/11/14

Today, I had to develop the shapes cut before to drape on thr body so I got another big paper to make the developed shapes. I tried to make more new interesting shapes. I put on the cut papers with various way on the body many times to find that. Finally, I found interesting shape and I drew on the sketchbook many times and I decided something to make. We had to choose only the fabric of monochrome colours and I chose black and white colour. They are same kind of fabric so they are conbined very well. I tried to make that with nice quality so I sewed them and personally, I was satisfied of my work. we had to finish the work until lunch time and displayed them on the wall. I looked around the works. there were many works which looks nice but someone didn't follow the curriculum like using colourful colours or something like that. I also got some feedback like It was kind of too minimal. I should have made more similar shapes and tried to combine together. But I couldn't think about it. I knew it after I got some feedback of some friends so I'm gonna draw more with different ways on sketchbook.

7/11/16

The task which we had to do before this Brutalist Architecture project starts was going 3 different structures of the style of Brutalist architecture in London and taking a photo of the building drawing them with various way. Our course didn't begin at Uni, but began at the Barbican Centre which used the style of Brutalist architecture. we drew many aspect quickly for an hour, I drew some stair, celling, column,  fountain and so on. and We did something as a group. To be honestly, I don't know exactly what we did. We just stick and tie something on the steel barred window. We came back to Uni after lunch and drew by using the shapes which we drew on the morning and last weekend and then, we drew them on the 4 A4sheets and we cut them and sticked to 3 A4sheets. I think It was developing process. Our homework was developing this images and shapes on 9 10by10 papers. so I went to pounds land to buy various materials to match with my idea. so I found some materials which could imagine the process of constructing and It also match with my structures' shapes. so I made it!

10/11/16

We still had some time to make the samples on the morning. I usually inspired by some structure which has many holes so I tried to use washer and nuts a lot to make more. We went to the Barbican centre again and Had some time to take a picture of our samples with the background of some parts of barbican centre. I did but I also wanted to try to put on the body so I photographed the samples with body many times adjusting samples.
